The Tour

Boat & Bike in Bavaria - Regensburg

Between Regensburg and Bamberg, cycling, river cruises and culture come together. UNESCO World Heritage Sites, a section of the Altmühl Valley, the Main, Regnitz and Danube rivers, local breweries, steep vineyards with famous locations, hearty food - nothing is left to be desired here. Furthermore, the cycle paths here are well built and maintained and mostly flat - so riding your bike here is very pleasurable, and can be wholeheartedly recommended to both novice and expert cyclists. The tour "Boat & Bike in Bavaria" commences in Regensburg.
Here you can find further information on the MS Casanova.

Boat & Bike in Bavaria - MS Casanova

Day 1 Arrival in Regensburg
Embarkation at 4 pm - afterwards, explore Regensburg, one of Germany's oldest and best-preserved medieval old towns and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 2 Regensburg - Riedenburg, approx. 55 km/34 mi
High above Kelheim towers the Liberation Hall, built by King Ludwig I, while the Altmühl and Danube rivers converge in the valley. The route continues along the Altmühl to Riedenburg.

Day 3 Riedenburg - Beilngries, 30 km/19 mi
Well-developed cycle paths take you via Dietfurt to today's destination, Beilngries, with its winding streets and baroque parish church. The name ‘Chinesen’ (Chinese) for Dietfurt has its roots in an anecdote from the Middle Ages, and the annual ‘Chinesenfasching’ (Chinese Carnival) has been declared an intangible cultural heritage of Bavaria.

Day 4 Beilngries - Hilpoltstein, approx. 40 km/25 mi
Hilpoltstein owes its early importance to its location on important trade routes and the Stein family. Explore the medieval town centre with its half-timbered houses, town hall, former residence and baroque parish church.

Day 5 Hilpoltstein - Nuremberg, approx. 40 km/25 mi
Cycle along the historic Main-Danube Canal towards today's destination. Initiated by King Ludwig I, the canal is one of the oldest in the world with 101 locks and is a historical monument to engineering.

Day 6 Nuremberg - Erlangen, approx. 30 km/19 mi
Before you hop on your bike, we recommend visiting a traditional gingerbread bakery, such as Düll or Fraunholzer, where Elisen gingerbread is still made by hand today. Cycle along the Regnitz river via Fürth to Erlangen.

Day 7 Erlangen - Bamberg, approx. 45 km/28 mi
Through the meadow landscape of the Regnitz Valley, you will reach the Franconian town of Forchheim, which has a long brewing tradition. Bamberg restaurants sourced their beer from here during the Bamberg Beer War in 1907. The destination for the day and the tour is the UNESCO World Heritage Site and beer city of Bamberg.

Day 8 Departure
After breakfast, your ‘Boat & Bike in Bavaria’ tour comes to an end. Disembarkation by 9 a.m.
