The Tour

Boat & Bike along Rhine and Neckar - Bad Wimpfen
Three rivers and alternating cycling and boat sections characterise this tour through a landscape steeped in history. Frankfurt, Mannheim and Heilbronn are the vibrant cities, whilst Worms, Eberbach and Ladenburg are the charming small towns on this journey. Wine-growing takes place along the Rhine and Neckar, whilst the section through the Odenwald is rather rugged. This boat and bike tour along the Main, Rhine and Neckar is also well suited to inexperienced cyclists. Here you will find details about the MS Casanova.

Boat & Bike along Rhine and Neckar - MS Casanova

Day 1 Arrival in Frankfurt, boat trip
Embarkation at 4 p.m. During dinner, the ship will take you to Nierstein, the largest wine-growing community in Rheinhessen.

Day 2 Nierstein - Mannheim, approx. 60 km/37 mi
The Rhine Cycle Path takes you via the imperial city of Worms to Mannheim, where the Neckar flows into the Rhine. The imposing Baroque palace, the bustling ‘Planken’ shopping mile and the impressive water tower characterise the cityscape of the ‘city of squares’.

Day 3 Boat trip, Heidelberg-Eberbach, approx. 34 km/21 mi
Castles and ruins sit on the hills, and you cycle to Eberbach on flat paths. Enjoy the lively atmosphere of the Staufer town as you stroll through the winding alleys and across the small squares.

Day 4 Boat trip, Bad Wimpfen-Heilbronn, 25 km/16 mi
Enjoy the boat trip along one of the most beautiful stretches of the Neckar, the end of which is heralded by the medieval silhouette of Bad Wimpfen. You’ll then cycle at a leisurely pace to Heilbronn, the centre of Württemberg’s wine-growing region.

Day 5 Boat trip, Bad Wimpfen-Hirschhorn, 65 km/40 mi
Today you’ll experience the most beautiful stretch of the Neckar by bike. Whilst vineyards dominate at the start, the Odenwald becomes increasingly higher and more wooded. In the evening, the boat will take you to Heidelberg.

Day 6 Heidelberg-Mannheim, boat trip, 30–35 km/19-21 mi
Start with a tour of the old university town and its famous castle ruins. Cycle along the Neckar to Ladenburg, one of Germany’s oldest towns, before reaching the Rhine in Mannheim. Overnight stay in Nierstein.
