Bike & boat - IJsselmeer & Islands

An unforgettable vacation experience: by bike & boat along the IJsselmeer, the former Zuider Zee, a popular sailing area and water sports area. On this journey, you will get to experience an amazing maritime landscape and visit several North Sea Islands on the Mare fan Fryslân, a three-masted schooner. Feel free to help the ship’s crew out - it is however not required, as is any kind of previous experience on sailing boats.Wind, weather and currents may affect the itinerary, which can therefore change at short notice.

Day 1 Arrival in Enkhuizen
Embarkation from 2 pm, followed by an induction into the ships’ specifics and your itinerary in the evening.

Day 2 Enkhuizen-Medemblik, 24-37 km/15-23 mi, boat trip
Alongside the shores of the IJsselmeer you will cycle to the perimeter of the mighty Afsluitsdijk. Depending on the weather, this will be followed by a sailing tour to Texel.

Day 3 Texel Island round trip, up to 43-49 km / 27-31 mi
This largest of the West Frisian Islands is very rich in variety and there are several cycling tours to choose from. The seal sanctuary is particularly worth a visit.

Day 4 Sailing tour to Terschelling Island
The cruise to the island will take you between 5 and 6 hours. The island only came into being in the early middle ages - 5 of its villages are situated on sand dunes.

Day 5 Terschelling Island round trip, up to 65 km / 40 mi
Sandy beaches and dunes, heaths, fertile fields and meadows and old mixed woodland - only some of the great things to see on this Island. West-Terschelling is its largest conurbation.

Day 6 Boat trip, Harlingen - Makkum, 48-58 km / 30-36 mi
Sailing over the IJsselmeer, you'll arrive at Harlingen with the monument of Wyfke fan Starum. Different cycle pathes to Makkum.

Day 7 Makkum - Enkhuizen, 32-49 km / 20-30 mi, boat trip
Today you'll first cycle to Stavoren, then the route will take you straight across the IJsselmeer.

Day 8 Disembarkation and departure
After breakfast, your tour "Bike & boat - IJsselmeer & Islands" on the Mare fan Fryslân will conclude.

The booking process

Arrival to "Bike & boat - IJsselmeer & Islands":

• Parking in Enkhuizen:
  Free parking at Enkhuizen railway station, situated right next to the harbour. No reservation possible.

• Arrival by train:
  Enkhuizen train station

• Arrival by plane:
  Schiphol Airport,  take the train to Enkhuizen, duration approx. 70 min, 1 x changes, standard fare approx. 15 €.

Personal bikes:
In principle, you can bring your own bike along. However, please note that your bike will be loaded on and off the boat twice a day along with several others and therefore slight cosmetic damage to individual bikes cannot be ruled out, which is why we do not take responsibility or liability for such damage. We recommend reserving one the excellent rental bikes we offer.

Perfectly looked after:
During your tour, we are available between 8 am and 8 pm, 7 days a week. We are happy to help with any kind of problems you might be having. You will find this emergency number in your travel documents.
